So

The idea for this post came from a conversation that I had with a couple of people at church this past weekend before the service started.

When I first started in ministry, I never really saw myself as a teacher - especially to kids. As a matter of fact I was terrified about the matter. When people would ask me if I wanted to teach I would make up excuses and all of that on why I couldn’t do it. But then God finally said to me “So, just do it. I made you. I know what you can do!”

I am reminded, as I write this post, of Moses. Moses was out minding his own business tending sheep when God lit a bush on fire to talk to him and get his attention. As Moses approached the burning bush, a voice came out of it and told him not to come any closer. God then revealed Himself to Moses and Moses hid his face because he realized he was in the presence of Almighty God. God then to Moses that he had heard the people of Israel and that they needed help and that He had come to rescue them. [1]

God then said this to Moses:

“So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” - Exodus 3:10 NIV

Moses then started in with excuses about why he couldn’t do what God had asked him. “Who am I to do this?” “Who shall I say sent me?” “What if they don’t believe me?” “I’m scared.” “I can’t speak well.” “Who else could you send besides me?”

God got mad at Moses. He told him to take his brother who would speak for him and the staff because he was going to need it. God had an answer for every excuse that Moses had almost as if God was saying “So, just do it! I am with you.” [1]

But we all do the same thing. We all try to excuse our way out of what God has for us. As I mentioned above, I had a lot of excuses of why I couldn’t teach God’s Word. “What if I’m not good at it?” “What if I mess up the story?” “What if I say the wrong thing?” “What if they don’t listen to me?” And I know God was like “So, just do it! I am with you.”

God made us. He is our Creator and He knows what we are capable of and He won’t ask us to do anything that we cannot do. He will ask us to do things that will make us stretch and grow and He is will us through it all. Moses wound up helping Israel and he led them out of Egypt. As for me, you can’t get me to stop teaching. I take every opportunity I can to teach the Word of God - especially to kids. I have started this ministry. God has been good to me.

But...

We just sometimes need that swift kick in the pants and God words “So, just do it!”
