I’m sure that all of you have seen the unrest that has risen up in the United States of America. The states and communities that are supposed to be “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” But we are far from one nation. We are far from being under God. We are far from being united. We are far from liberty and justice.
As many of you have seen in the news the riots, protests, looting and destruction of property that has been happening in many cities across this nation. If you were like me and caught this story at the time where the protests and looting and destruction of property was the main focus, you might have missed the real problem that was present. The problem being the unnecessary death of George Floyd.
As I began to catch pieces and parts of the story, I began to look more into the story. It was there that I saw what I saw. In the article, by the New York Times (link below), I saw a black man being held to the street by a white officer for presumed counterfeit money that he just used in the store. The video shows no sign of George struggling or fighting the officers to warrant that kind of behavior from the police. There were people on the streets and sidewalks urging the officers to let George up because they could hear him crying out - until he stopped.
My heart is saddened by these events. I recently watched a message from Elevation Church (link below). In the message, Pastor Furtick and Pastor Gray talk about their feelings and emotions toward the events of the murder of George Floyd and other topics. They said that “silence is agreement.” Those words got to me. I am honest, I have no idea what to say other than what I have been saying and over the last couple of days, in my Morning Momentum videos, and that is urging people to pray for this nation.
Pray for the nation that shouts about being “one nation”, yet far from solidarity. Pray for the nation that shouts about being “under God”, yet is far from God. Pray for the nation that shouts about being “indivisible”, yet is divided. Pray the nation that shouts about being for “liberty and justice”, yet this stuff happens in the streets of the cities. Pray for this nation.
Pray for the unrest in this nation. Pray for all of the people and communities affected by all of the looting and destruction. Pray for the protests that they will remain civil and serve the point they are trying to make. Pray for the family and the friends of this human man that died unnecessarily in the streets. Pray for this nation.
At this time, I don’t know what else to say. I don’t know what else to do. But pray! Prayer is so powerful! It is one of the most powerful things that we can do. This nation needs God Almighty to save us!
“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” - 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
We need to pray for this nation.
