For this Wayback Wednesday post, we are going to look at a post from October 2018. The reason I chose this blog post is that, in the recent blog post and podcast episode “Limiting God”, I briefly referenced Revelation 14:3 in which the redeemed sang a song. The following post will help elaborate as to why this song that the redeemed sang is so special to God. (The following post is in the original form.)
-----------------------
This special series is based on the recent Elevation Worship album “Hallelujah Here Below”. In this series of posts, after listening to the album, some things came out to me and I wanted to share them with you.
Used to express praise, joy, or thanks, the word hallelujah is used by many.[1] Hallelujah, I found a job! Hallelujah, I got an A on that math test! Hallelujah, for that extra money! Hallelujah, I woke up this morning! Hallelujah, I survived that car accident! Hallelujah, I am cancer free! Hallelujah, I survived that crisis! Hallelujah, God has come to my rescue again! Hallelujah, God is still by my side!
Another way people express hallelujah is with “praise the Lord” or “thank God”. We all have used one or more of these phrases before. But I was shown a different way to think of the word.
In one of the new songs of the recently released album, one of the verses says:
“Ten thousand angels surround Your throne
To bring You praise that will never cease
But hallelujah from here below
Is still Your favorite melody”[2]**
If angels surround God all the time and sing Him praises that will never cease - then why is the praise (hallelujah) that comes from down here so special to God that it is His favorite to listen to? Pastor Steven Furtick of Elevation Church said this to his congregation at the live album recording...
“He is pleased with the offering. What would He want with this broken stones - these dysfunctional people? What would He want with humanity? But our hallelujah here below is a sound that the angels can’t make because they have never been redeemed like we have been redeemed. There is a praise that can only come from broken people, who know that if it had not been for the mercy of God. I wonder if there are any living stones with a bold broken hallelujah. Would you lift your voice? He wants to hear your hallelujah.”[3]
God loves hearing our praise - our hallelujah - our thanks because it’s something that He can only hear from us. He can only hear it from the redeemed. He loves our broken praise. He loves us!
Hallelujah to God our Savior!
“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” - 2 Corinthians 9:15 NIV
