Do you ever get the feeling that you’re being watched?
The truth is you are always being watched by someone. This is not meant to be creepy or weird. But you are being watched..... by everyone. Young Kids. Teenagers. Adults. You are indeed being watched. What do people observe when they watch you?
I asked myself that very same question one Thursday night at a midweek service at my church. This midweek service was a special service that was more of a worship night and time with the church family outside of the normal weekend service. These services were a little more personal and raw as we all met and experienced God. These services also had a time to take communion and remember what Jesus had done for us and that was done during some more amazing worship time. But this one Thursday in December something caught my eye that led to me asking myself the question above.
As I returned to my seat after walking up and taking part in communion, this family across the aisle from me caught my eye. This family consisted of 3 people, a little girl- maybe 3 years old - a man, and a woman. As I kept looking over from time to time as this little group of people, I saw something that was too amazing to keep to myself. As the song we were singing went on, the man was lifting his hands up - arms fully extended- praising Jesus Christ his Savior. But as I looked a little closer through the dimly lit auditorium, a beam of light hit the little girl. What I saw was amazing!
As the beam of light hit this little girl, I could see her eyes looking at the man. She watched for a second and then she also lifted her hands into the air. He was being watched and she was watching him. She may not have understood exactly what he was doing, but she was watching him.
This is true. We are all being watched and the ones watching us may not understand what we are doing, but they are watching. The disciples didn’t understand a lot of what Jesus was doing, but they were watching. The religious leaders didn’t understand what Jesus was doing, but they were watching.
So as I said, we are all being watched. Are you aware? What are people seeing when they watch you? This is not a call to perfection. This is a call to awareness.
